AFAIK, Black Sheep footage not withstanding, they were pretty much phased 
out by 1943.

The T-17 and Navy 51004 (RS-38) are not low output microphones.  The 
purpose of the three tiny holes is to allow use of a microphone in the expect high 
ambient noise environment.
