For that, you will need the manual for the AN/MRC-20, showing the R-584/MRC-20 and R-589/MRC-20.

I have never seen such a switch as part of the BC-348-*.

There is a MONITOR-NORMAL switch used with the BC-348-* in SCR-287-A (BC-375-*) and AN/ARC-8 (AN/ART-13A) systems to net the receiver and the transmitter, but it is external to the receiver and transmitter and is usually located on the operating desk just right of the receiver.  In MONITOR, it prevents the receiver from being muted when the transmitter is keyed.  Also, the switch disconnects transmitter sidetone from the audio bus so that the audio bus carries only the beat note from the receiver that is generated as the transmitter and receiver frequencies are adjusted to each other.  A switch internal to the receiver would not have access to the sidetone circuit.
