Think the thing here is the tubes pedigree, or alleged pedigree. Chinese VT-4C/211 can be bought all day long for $75.00 but they just don't have the 1940 NOS sound.
This is an auction for a GE VT-4C that doesn't look to GE to me:

Wonder how much effort it would take our friend in Mumbai to work up the screen set to stencil that "GE" tube as an authentic NOS 1940 Western Electric tube? Any time Western Electric is added to the name the price increases by a factor of six. Did Western Electric ever build VT-211 tubes?

Didn't you notice the obvious? It's not just a VT-4-C, it is THE very rare ultra-performance CUE-38111A !!!
