Same thing happened to me after I had delivered an hour presentation on Squad Radios from WW2 through early VN to a local Ham radio club.  I had opened up the PRC-10 to show the hollow-state innards to the audience.  A couple of young’uns (late 20s/early 30s) came up to take a look and asked the same thing: “What are those little glass tubes in there for?”  Sigh.

Perhaps I've mentioned it once before, but in line with this thread, I'm reminded of the 20s-something ham who looked inside one of my radios at the TRW swap meet and asked, "What are these glass things in here?"  Sigh.  Mike, W6MAB
