[Milsurplus] PA tracking of gang-tuned transmitters ?

Here's something i have wondered about, when at times i have thought
about how something like the BC-1306 might be tweaked to a slightly
higher tuning range. In these transmitters with a ganged VFO, doubler,
and final, such as the BC-654, BC-1306, TRC-2, and GRC-9, how is the
final accurately maintained with the varying antenna conditions? Other
transmitters require you to carefully tune the final, AND the loading.
But in these, the final is gang-tuned, and all that's adjustable is the
loading and % coupling. I have never aligned such a transmitter, and i
don't
understand how the tracking of the final can be all that good.
Oh, add the 'Command Sets' SCR-274 and AN/ARC-5 to that list.
