[Milsurplus] [BoatAnchors] Little "Field Day" Genny, Remarkable Price.

In a related happening. I have a friend here who has run a first class
power too rental outfit for 30 plus years. He now hands out his own fuel
cans with fuel oil premix and he adds an ethanol neutralizing additive to
help control what goes into his nice high end gas 2 cycle tools.

I'm guessing it has two additional bad properties:

1) It is a strong thinner for the oil,

2) It's molecule has both nonpolar and polar ends so combines with the
nonpolar petroleum compounds but also with water so brings more moisture
into the engine fuel components (this property is why it works as "dry
gas").

I don't believe pure ethanol, in of itself, is corrosive to aluminum and
steel (or maybe the occasional bit of brass found in the fuel path), but is,
as you mention, damaging to certain gasket and hose materials.

won't counteract the corrosive properties of ethanol, but perhaps it might
add some additional lubrication? I had always thought that the problem with
ethanol was it ate rubber and other soft gasket-y type things.

problem is the fuel. Ethanol has been reported to be very corrosive and
harmful to small engines. I have had luck using "premixed" premium fuel
purchased at Lowe's, Home Depot etc. on my 2 cycle equipment but the fuel is
expensive. I've recently had to completely rebuild a Honda generator carb
due to damage by using Ethanol fuel over a several year period.
