[Milsurplus] Little "Field Day" Genny, Remarkable Price.

For whatever reason, the small two stroke generators from China are not
very reliable. Even with the correct fuel/oil mixture, the cylinders are
said to score badly and lose compression quickly. I think the only way
to expect any reasonable lifetime from them would be to use fuel without
any ethanol and the best synthetic 2 stroke oil. I haven't yet been able
to get a bad one to see what is wrong and if it can be salvaged. Most
of them around here are sold by Harbor Freight, sometimes for as little
as $70 in sale.
The compact generator I want to find is one from about 20 years ago
that consisted of an automotive alternator and small 2 stroke engine. It
was very small and light, and produced 12 volts DC only at about 40
amps. It could refresh a dead car battery to allow a start in about five
minutes. One of them and a battery would be great for portable radio
operation with equipment that ran from 12 volts. One of my low
priority projects is to adapt a small car alternator to a 4 stroke leaf
blower engine.
