First, the calibration books on the BC-221 aren't riveted into the front
cover. They are attached with 8 binding head machine screws. Removable but
not easily or accidentally.
$20 is about what 221's used to sell for at hamfests if they were sitting
on the ground underneath a rice-burner owner's table. Typical price for one
in decent cosmetic condition with its original cal book is probably $40 to
$70. So Roger_Radio's 221 would probably sell except that it's listed as
Local Pickup Only.
Although as previously mentioned, the serial number on the BC-221-C
nameplate isn't visible, the serial number on the cal book is 575. Which is the
same as the one on the loose cal book that the same vendor has for sale.
Curious case with the lone book. Instruments on the very early Orders (this one
is FY 1939) did ship with a spare cal book but it has to be a minor miracle
that the spare book managed to stay with a used instrument all these years.
However, he claims that it's new (he means NOS). Miracles do happen. :-)
