[Milsurplus] Transient suppression circuit values.....?

FYI, some time ago (like 40 years) I had on occasion to research transient
suppressors when I had built a very high-quality power supply for a repeater
and was blowing diodes when I tried switching the PRIMARY of the power
transformer.

I found two sources for ways to calculate the correct values of capacitance
and resistance, based on the inductance value and current through that
inductance.

I found the first discussion of this in an RSGB handbook which I still have,
and the second one in a G.E. source, which I MAY still have.

I will publish the RSGB version here for your amusement and education as
soon as I can dig it out.

Basically, as I understand it, what you are building with the series RC circuit
is a broad-band series tuned circuit, tuned, more or less, to the fundamental
frequency of the "spark" transmitter of the arc source.

Anyway, both the RSGB version and the G.E. version for calculating the
result provide slightly different values for the R and C, but either worked quite
effectively for my purposes.
