My big get-organized project continues and i am sorting out all kinds of
paper.
I found this letter of April 27 1981, from George Werner W4ORT. QRZ.com
does not list this call as now assigned.
Verbatim from letter, for your possible interest, related to LM frequency
meter. Via: Hue Miller
"....when the main tx quit, I frequently sent my 'in' reports using the LM
and tapping code by hitting the ant to the output connector at a CW rate -
worked good!!"
"Hope this helps you. I also flew in Dec 1945 looking for those 5 TBM A/C
lost in So Florida. One of our squadron PBMs was lost during that 3 day
period. We were sked to fly it on a nite hop but it was not acceptable - bad
port prop generator. GO-9 wouldnt tune properly - gas fumes, oil leak
stbd engine etc. so we turned it down and flew another. Next evening she
sent her out report and - no more - I flew 33 hours in 3 days looking for
survivors but no luck. We knew she blew up in flight. Also no trace of the
'TORPECKERS' as the TBM was known as then.
73 and Good Luck
George Werner W4ORT since 1947
ATCS USN Ret. ( ex ARM 1/c ) "
