We are all dependent on GPS more than most can imagine. The majority of cell systems derive their reference from GPS, the sites not the phones. If they have a drop in signal it's only a matter of days or hours before they start to drift off frequency and in modern digital communications exact frequency control is critical to the network. Also GPS provides timing information for billing. GPS is now the favorite for providing time and frequency references, the Rubidium Standards are getting far and fue between compared to everything that's deriving its reference from GPS, so it not just navigation.
Wonder about the Iranian thing, no easy task to mask over GPS downlink, would have to be something like the old Tropo Scatter operation and involve bouncing massive amounts of energy off the ionosphere to get the antenna to see it.

Recent news article claims that the Iranian Navy spoofed GPS sigs and lured our two vessels into their territorial waters prior to capture. DOD has not confirmed or denied the report.

OHHHHHHHHHHH, yes!!! And the devil internet and the damned computers too...
Some time ago, I read a report from, as I recall it, the Army in which some high-muckety-muck expressed considerable deep concern that the Army is so dependent on computerized this and that that it appears to be completely unable to function if/when those computers, etc., go down.
