Not so in the case of the later AN/ARC-5 receivers, Mac.
The AGC detector diode is in the 2nd IF tube (12SF7) in order to prevent the
BFO from affecting the AGC. The AGC is never turned off, whether the
receiver has its BFO on or off.
Therefore, AGC works on CW in those receivers.
