Some years back i mentioned i had this Navy pub, " RADIO EQUIPMENT LOG NAVSHIPS 900,039.
It does NOT give any indication of the ship name or class. There is a TBM tuneup listing in back
titled "CROSS ROADS". The equipment list up front indicates ship built by "New York Ship{building]"
and radios were installed 6-10-1945. The last date is 9-14-1948 at PSNS ( Puget Sound Naval Shipyard,
Bremerton, WA ) and just lists a couple pieces of equipment tested - RBS receiver - which i would guess
was just some kind of pro forma checklist item, casually performed.

I have tried, so far unsuccessfully, to determine which ship that was involved in Operation Crossroads
and then ended up parked in the reserve fleet before whatever its eventual fate was, either target or
as scrap sale. I have been unable to link a ship commissioned in 1945 to Crossroads survivors parked at
Bremerton in 1948. I will be sending this book to Nick, as it seems his Navy Radio site is the best
repository for it. Meanwhile, if you have any clues as to ship class or even name, speak up.

The 1945 installation list has:
Radio 1: RAK RAL 2/RBA 4/RBB 6/RBC RBU RBV 2/RCK TBS

Radio 2: 2/TDQ RBA RBB RBC 3/RBO 2/TBM TBS TDE

Radio 3: RAK RAL TAJ TCK

CIC: 2/RBK RBS RBW

There is a brief notation that a "Radio 4" exists but antennas are not normally connected? and only equipment noted is TDZ.
There's no proof all the equipment listed was the ship's complement at the Crossroads date. But i believe the target ships
participated with their normal working equipment complement. Probably ditto for the ships scuttled thereafter.

It seems a lot of U.S. servicemen got more than their share of radioactive exposure during the tests. At least there came
a greater awareness of the problems with fallout and exposure. Possibly the worst affected were the Bikini islanders, who
were basically swindled out of their home and then shunted off to other unlivable or undesirable islands.
