All it requires is a slip in your awareness. 
I have had 2 storage break-in burgs, and one flooding. Luckily nothing REALLY irreplaceable was stolen, and the flooding only damaged 
the mounting base of one receiver and a bunch of vintage aviation magazines. "Could have been worse", which is also what i said after
vehicle problems and medical emergencies. However, i did feel like a very poor steward of historical materials. 

In this plane of existence: there are any number of clever humans just cruising around with eyes constantly looking for something that
is not absolutely well locked up and nailed down. There are water, insects, and rodents always waiting for any opportunity to enter
under your roof.
