On the transient issue, could the "pop" be caused by
the current through L-3, the 11H choke in the mic
DC supply line?

Try shorting out the choke, and see if that helps.

Seems to me that 11H is a lot of inductance. The choke
in the BC-375 mic DC circuit is only .5H. But I see
the designers are feeding tones into the mic circuit,
maybe the large choke is to keep the tones out of
other circuits.
