I have always loved those old Hammalunds. They are kind of "military truck-ish" looking for 
one thing. And I liked the way they work too.

Hammarlund published a mod for those receivers which reduced the drift very noticably. I 
have the bulletin here somewhere, but what it amounted to was a 3 pfd cap with as large a 
negative temp coeffecient (like 1500 ppm) as possible soldered across the HFO tuning cap. 
As I remember it, it was placed on top somewhere where it would receive heat from nearby 
tubes.

I'll try to dig that out.
