Good point about the receiver interference concern. With a regen, at worst, you have only a very small signal generated, very close to 

the received signal frequency - - at the worst. And in the case of the RAL – RAK, NO radiated signal.

 

However, i would guess, based on my reading, that the time a submarine’s radio technician spent listening for enemy radio signals

to be about zero. That would be a pointless use of time. Now, identifying and analyzing enemy radars, yes, and that would also be

crucial for your own survival.
