In Portland, Oregon a fellow member of the NW Vintage Radio Society has a
Navy RAS in rack setup.
I have not seen this. It was described as having all same serial number,
including the manual. This is
an estate sale follow up item. The person didn't sound enthusiastic about
taking it to the August
PSARA club, open swapmeet in Seattle, but he maybe would, if a sale was
pending. I do not know the
selling price but i'm pretty sure it would be non-retail. I realize that
most readers here are out of
reach of these events but wanted to at least broadcast the opportunity. If
anyone interested, write
me and i'll forward your note to the seller.
I think the RAS was the actual first mil-surplus receiver i ever saw,
probably back in Jr. High school,
and to me it looked positively prehistoric. Unfortunately the friend's RAS
in the garage did not work,
or it would have been more impressive.
The RAS in Portland was first listed as an RAX and i was preparing to do the
3-hour drive there to buy
it. But the drive inland to the freeway is so grueling (to me ) i just
wasn't up to it and chickened out.
I subsequent emails, arranging for another pickup date, some descriptions of
the "rack setup" didn't
square, and in the middle of the night it flashed on me, that he really
meant "RAS". Maybe i had some
kind of premonition that saved me that 6-hours round trip drive.
