Anecdote.
Some of you may recall seeing this.

Some years back, on Epay there appeared a “new, unissued” condition SRR-13, sold out of California, IIR.

This was maybe around year 2000 ??? I can’t nail it down more than that.

The photos did back up the claim, and it was in some kind of cardboard packing box, which i don’t recall

but there was no doubt it was as seller claimed. I think he said he had gotten it from MARS program and

never used it. I think i bid $1500 and it sold for just a bit more. I got a note from the seller saying the 

buyer, in Greece, had backed out and declined to pay. I was the second high bidder and it was offered to

me. But meanwhile i’d had a reversal of my thinking on the thing, and thinking of the hassle of soldered-in

tubes and needing spare modules, the thought of that hassle turned me off. So i declined to buy it also –

this was my option, i was not obligated per rules.  But a few days later i got another chance, i got an email

from supposedly, the seller, saying he had a second one of the same item and would i like to buy it ( outside

the auction ). I declined that one also – i wasn’t confident in the shipping of it from Nigeria.  This was before

Ebay squelched that by masking the bidder’s username.
