I have used Gunk Engine Degreaser with a stiff bristle-brush on black-wrinkle radios. The 
stuff seems to be mostly something like kerosene with a bunch of added light oil of some 
kind.

It REALLY gets the dirt out, has not damaged the paint on any radio I have used it on, and 
leaves the paint (or at least what paint is still there) looking like new...and it doesn't seem to 
"draw" dirt afterwards either.

I use it on all of the radios I refurbish except those I have to repaint.
