Most here are familiar with those 4- and 5-digit part numbers shown on various Aircraft Radio Corporation RF coil assemblies in the so-called "command set"* series of receivers and transmitters. I have attached a one-page pdf file that tabulates all of those part numbers to the specific receiver or transmitter to which they apply. Contractors other than A.R.C. who produced these devices retained A.R.C. part number markings.

I have tabulated ALL known LF/MF/HF receivers from RAV to A.R.C. Type 12, along with the tuning range and IF of each...42 different receiver nomenclatures.

I have tabulated ALL known MF/HF transmitters from ATA to AN/ARC-5, along with the tuning range and calibration crystal frequency of each...22 different transmitter nomenclatures.

Some may find the listing of these many different components all in one place to be more interesting than the RF coil number information.

* NOTE: The first production receivers in this "command set" series were NOT command set receivers at all:

The 1939 RAT and RAT-1 13.5 to 27.0 MHz sets extended the 0.224 to 13.575 MHz tuning range of 1939 RU-11 and RU-12 TRF liaison receivers. After liaison transmitter GO-4 appeared in 1938, USN liaison transmitter tuning ranges (depending on model) extended as high as 26.5 MHz.

The 1940 RAV set improved upon the RU-11/RU-12 plus RAT/RAT-1 liaison receiver system by using eight modern superheterodyne receivers similar to the RAT-1 to cover 0.19 to 27.0 MHz, thus eliminating RU-type TRF receivers entirely.

These A.R.C. liaison receivers were procured in very limited quantities not exceeding 50. The competing 1940 RAX-1 by General Electric is a much simpler and better-performing set of three receivers for liaison service, procured in thousands of units.

Three unmodified and two slightly-modified RAV receivers survived as five 1940 ARA command set receivers, procured in thousands of units.

The first three AN/ARC-5 receivers R-20, R-21, R-22 are identical to their RAV and ARA equivalents, except for nomenclature. Very few were produced because of the development of improved receivers R-25, R-26, R-27.

SCR-274-N receivers are electrically identical to the ARA, except for AF output impedance and no 1.5 to 3.0 MHz receiver.
