[Milsurplus] puzzler - module with glass rod?

I haven't been paying a lot of attention to this thread, but did anyone
suggest that it is a quartz delay line?  Those have been around for a long
time. Have a look at this German WW2 radar page, near the bottom

You can see that the German delay line looks a lot like the mystery thing.
I don't know what American equipment would have used this.
