I had the same experience here in MooseCall ( Moscow) Idaho several years 
ago. I heard what could only be multiple "round engines", ran outside and 
watched a B-17 and a B-24 pass overhead on their way to Lewiston, Idaho 
at an altitude of no more than 500 feet.

I didn't "come down" for two days.

Then I took the kids and went to Lewiston to visit both airplanes. Tears were 
running down my cheeks and my little boys were wondering why.

I couldn't explain it adquately.
