My research is that the ZA was probably only used by the Navy, only
on seaplanes and amphibians, and was dropped about halfway
through WWII.

The Glide Slope was in the 90 MHz range, localizer was at LF or MF.

According to what I've read, the biggest shortcoming of the system was
that the angle of the glide slope depended on ground reflectivity, varying
on whether the ground was wet or dry. Hence, with seaplanes, the ground
is always wet.

The AN/ARN-9 looks to have been developed from the ZA, but I have
never seen any documentation or bits and pieces of the AN/ARN-9. ZA stuff
does show up on eBay from time to time. So I have no idea of what, if any,
the differences between the two systems are.

As Mike Morrow mentioned, I do have an almost complete ZA system, only
missing a few minor detail pieces, one of the plans is to put it
together for
display, along with an RC-103 (BC-733) system for comparison.
