I have the whole shebang: a pair of R-808's (their serial numbers are one number apart), the T-631, the power supply, the original interconnect cables, and the two telephone remotes. What I don't have is the - obviously unobtanium - mounting tray.
I can't get the transmitter to operate. The master oscillator works in the calibrate mode, when I go to transmit it stops. All the voltages are OK into the modules. I did some equivalent tube swaps - my initial thinking was that one of the relay driver tubes is bad. I also used Deoxit on the tube sockets, relay sockets, connectors and reseated everything several times. No change.
I left the whole thing open so I can get back to it later when I have time. I'm planning to try to drive the finals from an external source. If I get output, I'll look into the whole driver chain. There is an "Emergency" manual tune mode, so even there is a problem with the PA autotune, it can be still tuned by manually controlling the tuning motors. I hope I'll find the problem before I run out of patience...
When I bought the set several years ago, I was told that it was working... Arghhh!
