This topic had me wondering again, of all the handcranked lifeboat radios in 
the postwar versions, or even the wartime ones, for that
matter, how many times they were actually employed. I don't mean the aircrew 
rescue type, I mean the larger, battery powered and
handcranked ones. I would guess the number of times such were used, comes in 
real close to 0.0%
Altho I think they're pretty neat devices. I have in the project list, a 
nice big yellow McKay unit, which might make a nice 40meter
QRP rig, tuning it down from the 8 MHz band, altho it would be the world's 
largest, heaviest QRP set.
