Unless I’m really confused (it would not be the first time) that amp is
actually a Harris / RF Communications amp re-badged as Harris / Gates.
Back when it was being designed some of them went a bit astray … they
do work quite well on the Ham bands.
They also had a great demo of the amp and it’s companion auto-tuner. They
would toss a spool of solder over one of the lighting fixtures in the shop. Break
off the end of the solder wire. Attach one end to the tuner output and let the other
end of the solder hang in air from the light fixture.
Next step was to key the transmitter and watch dangling end of the solder light up
and burn off. Yes this was back in the days of tin-lead solder. Today that demo
would have the lawyers screaming all over the place …
