[Milsurplus] What does CNY stand for ?

On Nick's NAVY-MIL site, CNY is listed under manufacturingcodes:
CNY - North American Phillips Co., Inc.
Since the tag I am researching is marked "Type CNY-2140",is it normal for a TYPE indicator to point to another companysuggesting where the equipment was made?
I'm still thinking CNY-2140 may point to an MRU installationor transmitter system?

I'm looking for more information on a Master HF oscillator whichhas on its tag 'Type CNY-2140' and was manufactured by or for Mackay Radio Company.
I'm coming up with zero via Google.  Has anyone had any lucktracing a "CNY" number ?
