This is a really great turn of phrase: "And before he "gets around to it,"the Grim Reaper gets around to him."Go Dave!
I gave up trying to make time to fix everything myself. We have 2 good "tube repair guys" here locally and they work cheap. Their time is worth my money. The last repair I did myself was on my son's 55 inch Proton LED TV!

It's less that the supply is "drying up" than the supply is
being wasted. Unlike perishable things, the number of
R-390s (or ARC-5s or any other radio) diminish only
with an owner's actions or- more importantly- his inactions.
It's not action; very few people tear them apart anymore.
The supply goes into attics, basements, barns and garages
where the owner will "get around to it."
And before he "gets around to it,"
the Grim Reaper gets around to him.
Without the occasional defamed, cussed-at
(read "coveted" and "envied") estate-buyer finding
and marketing them, most of the sets would
go to the scrap yard. Better it go to anyone, anywhere
for any amount than the scrap yard.
