Possibly because the threat of weather todays turnout was not as large as yesterdays. Maybe about a half to two thirds the people as was there Friday. It did rain for short periods of time with the big downpour just after three. I left the grounds about three thirty or a quarter of four.
One of the big items this year was 618T transceivers saw several for sale and other who had just obtained them and am seeing a lot of activity in that direction. The average price for 618T three phase AC power radios is around $250.00, did not see any heads, racks or test sets. Also saw several more R-390 receiver today so they are there in numbers. Couple other high end receivers included two TMC GRP-90 receivers and one or two Watkins Johnson and Racal’s.
The 3885 AM net went off at noon and had a total of thirty three stations with a large number of BC-611, GRC-9 and more exotic radios like the “pogo stick” transceiver. Net control this year was Joe and his TCS set complete with dynamotors and car batteries that had to have one battery changed in the middle of the net.
The cold War 51.00 net went off at two thirty local time with around fifty check ins with plenty of PRR/PTT sets, many PRC-68 and 126 sets and some more exotic sets like my Russian R-107, some rascals and SEM East German sets.
All together it was another good year, I bought a little Russian transceiver but was stupid and passed up on a 100 amp generator for the jeep that could have been mine for $100, ways less then they sell for at vehicle meets and when I went back this morning to get it was told it sold for $50! Also wanted to go back and buy a broken Motorola 2001 service monitor for spare parts for the one I have but was never able to find the location again. Think what my wife tells me is true; the time to buy things is when you see them and not after you think about it.
