This business model is not sustainable. A quality packing job--as all of us here definitely know--requires good materials and experienced packers. There is no way to make packing free. And probably no way to charge just $5 for pickup. These people won't last a year--not on those terms. There was a very similar service here In Pittsburgh 2 years ago called "Anything Anywhere". They charged for packing but pickup was free. But they did not survive.73 de N3RHT

Subject: [Milsurplus] An amazing packing and shipping service. SHYP. Have used them to ship mil surplus rigs with very good results
SHYP is a start-up in San Francisco and is expanding to other metro areas such as LA. I have no interest in and get nothing from the company, just a user.
Their deal is almost unbelievable: For a $5 fee they will pick up any item up to 50 lbs, usually within an hour of your call, pack it and ship it Fedex ground or USPS, whichever charges less, and you pay ONLY retail shipping rates, ZERO for packing. They pick up on weekends and on evenings up to 8:00 PM. If you have multiple items to ship the $5 pickup fee applies to the visit, not a $5 per item pickup charge. They shipped a delicate item to Hong Kong and handled all the paperwork. All they charged was what I would have had to pay at the Post Office. Item arrived in perfect shape.
The 50 lb limit rules out a lot of boat-anchors but certainly not all. I shipped a Collins 618T for surprisingly low price. The buyer reported superb packing as have others who received shipments packed by SHYP. For odd sized objects they sometimes make their own boxes. Very liberal use of good quality bubble wrap and crush-able laminated cardboard spacers. They do not double box but will put an item you boxed inside their box if you so request.
I had one item arrive damaged due to Fed Ex brutality. Shyp paid the damage claim with ZERO hassle, didn't tell me to go deal with the shipper. They also (without me requesting it) refunded the entire shipping price too. There is a $1000 liability limit. Don't know if you can buy excess coverage as I have never needed it.
Hard to see how this business model can work. I've checked several times and they do not markup shipping costs over retail prices. They must survive on discounts. My days of waiting in Post Office lines are over, at least until Shyp folds their tent. I just don't see how they can make enough to support this level of service.
