Damn fine find, Les, and thanks indeed !!
This is the only actual POW radio photo I have ever seen.
The Time-Life WWII series in one volume showed spy radios and clandestine receivers built by civilians, but nothing like
this.
I noticed outside of some quite thin male prisoners near the beginning, the people actually looked pretty decently well,
so this must have been one of the ‘better regime’ camps.
The radio: I’ll have to go back and save some stills from this, but it looks like one could almost build a replica from the
screen views.
I wonder what they connected the generator belt to? And how they got B+ from it?

BTW, off topic, but....my respect for the Australian infantry is immense. They were among the very toughest, highest
achieving troops, like the U.S. Marines, but – they did it with less of everything.

For those who would like to see a (almost certainly authentic) photograph (movie) of a radio used in Kuching POW camp, please follow this link:

After several minutes you'll see the radio. The film comes from the Australian War Museum.

September 1945.
