[Milsurplus] MAF and MAG transceivers - 2200 Mc AM in 1943?

Looking at a chart in the back of the 1945 SHIPS 242A (Thanks to WA5CAB) I
see the MAF and MAG transmitters listed for A3 emission at 2200-2400 Mc -

The table listing for MAF says "directional - mounted on searchlight" and
MAG says "directional - Marine Corps portable".

Mxx and A3 implies they were voice transmitter-receivers- What the heck
were these things?
