The BC-1206-* units could not be used in 14vdc aircraft. And the classic
civil aviation beacon-band receive/HF transmit (278 kHz/3105 kHz typical)
would be unsat for military use. Even post-WWII military trainer aircraft
stateside that used HF commamd sets often carried one HF transmitter,
one HF receiver, and one LF/MF receiver to allow HF plane-to-plane
communications and the common MF/HF tower communications.

AFAIK, the R-76/ARR-13 (S-C model 512) was the only beacon-band
receiver utilized on 14vdc aircraft. The AN/ARR-13 manual specifies
its power as coming from the same AVA-126 that also served the AVR-20-A1
and AVT-112. It provides the range and tower capability that is
missing from the AVR-20.

I think the AN/ARR-13 was a better choice than the seeming logical
RCA AVR-15 beacon-band receiver, which is the same size as the AVR-20.
It is smaller, lighter, has an RF amp stage, and allows quick selection
of 278 kHz.

>>> Can anyone provide information on the correct original connectors for the
>>> receiver to power supply on the AVR 20A. The manual specifies the cordage as
>>> MI 19518 but does not provide the connector information. The receiver has a
>>> short pigtail that then connected to a longer line to the power supply. This
>>> is for a Stinson L-5E aircraft installation.

>> I addressed the connectors in my last post. WRT the L-5E, it had a 14 vdc
>> electrical system, so the common BC-1206 range receivers like the Setchel-
>> Carlson model 524 were unusable. It should have instead the Setchel-
>> Carlson model 512. That has the JAN nomenclature of R-76/ARR-13. It uses
>> 14vdc for filaments and high voltage from the same AVA-126 vibrator unit
>> that supplied the AVR-20-A1 HF receiver and the AVT-112 HF transmitter.
>> That's not a bad little set of radios for the L-5 in its era.
