Hi All:
I am offering for sale a very clean GRC-109 (US Army version of the early 1950s
CIA RS-1 "spy radio" station.) The set consists of three pieces, the T-784
Transmitter (15 Watt CW)', the R1004 Receiver and the PP-2685 AC Power Supply.
It covers 3 to 22 MHz in four bands and is crystal controlled, using crystals in
the FT-243 holder or others with the same pin spacing. if you are not familiar
with this set please download the US Army tech manual from
http://hilltoparmyradios.com/TM%2011-5820-474-14%20GRC-109.pdf
This is the earlier version of the GRC-109 made in the early 1960s with the
screw-down covers. This set was fully refurbished at the Tobyhanna Army Depot
in PA from whom I acquired it in the mid 1990s. Everything, including the
cables are original. It has been in storage for about 20 years and I just went
through it completely to check it out and operated it on the air for a few
hours. The set works perfectly and cosmetically is in near-mint condition. I
am asking $800 for the set plus shipping. It weighs about 35 pounds complete.
The GRC-109s were quite plentiful,in the 1990s but now nice clean examples such
as this one are very hard to find. The RS-1 version is extremely rare and sells
for big bucks whenever one surfaces. It's a fun radio set and quite easy to use
as it was designed for quick setup and operation. The cases are very robust so
as to allow for in-ground storage for long periods of time.
if interested please reply bonemeal to w1rc at near-fest.com
Thanks for reading and your interest.
