The Army Signal Corps labeled Mackay 128AW receiver AFAIK was used on
vessels operated by the Army Corps of Engineers on rivers, the Great Lakes,
coastal waters and harbors. The nomenclature is post- 1945 AN series. The
128AW was not only for Liberty ships, it is a standard, commercial marine
product that was used in the Mackay equipped Libert/Victory ships. There was
also a series of RCA Radiomarine produced radios in use in Liberty ships.
The 128AW equivalent RMCA receiver is the AR-8510 in RMCA radio
installations.

Subject: [Milsurplus] Mackay Marine Mystery
Here's a mystery for you "big Navy receiver" fans:
Walked into a "militaria" shop yesterday and walked-out with
my first Mackay Marine, a 128AW longwave receiver in
very nice shape and for a good price.
So here's the mystery:
Why does a "Liberty Ship" radio
have Army Signal Corps inspection stamps?
