"Folks, surely someone knows where I might find or
whom I might ask for a schematic of the
Western Eletric 227B Marine Radio Telephone?
This think is laughing at me and giving me the finger!
I just *gotta* fix it, but there's some "weird" stuff in here.
Dunno if someone has had the "golden screwdriver" in it.
I mean.... 10 mFd cap from the 1st Audio plate to ground??
What's up with that?"
I've queried my old marine electronic tech friends and none ever saw this WE rig much less worked on one. It's a rare transceiver and you have one in beautiful cosmetic condition.
Indeed a "golden screwdriver" may have been inside. Been there done that. That cap value seems way out.
As an electronics obsessed kid I meddled a lot with a similar vintage marine AM rig, an Apelco 18, that was the only comm radio on my Dads commercial fishing boat. I'm writing an article for Electric Radio that will detail a lot of my ill informed youthful marine electronics exploits which included pushing a 6L6 final into internal meltdown. Luckily the modulation transformer survived.
