As a child i lived for a few years in Germany, late 1950s. One of our crowd of boysshowed up with a rusted German helmet he'd found; the rest of us were so jealous! My brother and i had what we called "bullet mines". You'd use an old spoon to dignot deep at all in the dirt embankments and dig out bullets of various calibers. I recallalso there were fragments of 'pineapple' grenades lying all about. That was many many years ago, but i still have a scarred 50 caliber slug i dug up back then. Of course, there was no small number of bullets expended in the war.I suppose the lure of "loot" was somehow triggered for me, during those experiencesway back then.-Hue Miller
