[Milsurplus] ( OT ) Defuzing the Past

Back in the early 60's the local PD received a call from a woman that bought a home and the previous owners used "a big bullet" for a door stop. She wanted the police to look at it. A Captain took the call and placed "the bullet" in the trunk of his patrol car and took it to the police station. He then called my dad, a sergeant and WW-2 artilleryman to take a look at it... When he saw it he told the Captain to evacuate the police yard and called EOD from the National Guard. The Captain chewed him out for making a bad call over a dummy round. Dad told him it was a live HE, high explosive 90MM round and when EOD  took it to the police firearms range and detonated it you could hear the boom for miles. The EOD team didn't know why it never went off and they never determined where it came from but speculated it came from Camp Ripley, MN a nearby NG training camp...
