Interesting article, K-74 was stationed at NAS Richmond, south of Miami. Coast Guard Communications Station Miami (NMA) is located on the property as well as the Miami Zoo. I was stationed there from 1987-91 and recall there was an underground tunnel system that ran between various locations on the base that likely still remain. The entrances were covered over with dirt to prohibit access but a small brick building was still there in the woods on the north side of the HF antenna field. NAS Richmond was heavily damaged by a hurricane in 1945 and was closed. Supposedly the CO ordered all equipment, aircraft, vehicles etc to be secured inside the hangars which were destroyed, resulting in the destruction of everything inside.... No way to rapidly evacuate aircraft from a blimp base, it's not like they could launch a blimp and fly away in a hurry....
