has the story of airship K-74’s July 1943 battle with U-134 in the Caribbean.
K-74 was the only airship destroyed by enemy fire in WW2.
It’s not a long article at all. Scrolling down, there appears a photo of the radio shack -
we might have discussed this here already, I don’t recall.
RU + GF and RU + GP equipment. Radar is mentioned in the article, but not shown, nor
is type designation given.
I happened across the photo after reading an article on Tillamook Oregon’s air museum.
Article in Oregon Coast magazine Feb. 2015. Tillamook had 2 hangars, each 7 acres large and
height of 180 ft. and used 2.5 million board feet of lumber – the hangars were built from wood
to conserve steel for war. Tillamook was probably a pretty good duty station – if a little boring,
and damp too. And it occurred to me, piloting an airship was probably pretty boring too.
