If you find military aircraft interesting, Microsoft billionaire Paul Allen's collection
at Everett WA, north of Seattle, is truly awe inspiring. Most of the planes are 
airworthy and are exercised regularly. There is no oil on the huge floor anywhere,
though. He cannot be making money on this effort, so I think we owe him thanks
for maintaining this museum with its many programs as his personal project:

Somewhat south of Portland is the Evergreen Museum,
which has Howard Hughes’ “Spruce Goose” massive wooden aircraft prototype.
I toured there some years back with warbird radio enthusiast Brad Whiting
( “Corvallis Air Depot” ). It’s a more modest sized museum but still worth
a visit if you happen to be in Oregon.

And a little smaller yet is the Tillamook Air Museum, on the coast, and 
occupying former a former WW2 blimp hangar – a massive wood construction:
