Didn’t see anyone claiming authorship of this tome, but it promulgates the myth of AN/PRC-1 radios in Burma. The The PRC-1 of that time was a suitcase spy radio that operated off AC mains current,
totally unsuited for jungle use and certainly did not have a 200 - 2000mile range. This mythical radio first appeared in the book “The Marauders,” written after the war by one Lt. Ogburn, a Signal Corps
officer assigned to Merrill’s Marauders. The book also describes this "2000 mile" radio as being hand cranked(?). The myth keeps getting reproduced including into the official “Green“ books. Ogburn
was a wire, not a radio guy BTW. He was probably describing an SCR-284 which did have sufficient CW range at night and with a good antenna to reach back to Merrill’s home base in India.
Recommend a look at the Marauder’s home site: <www.marauder.org/marauder <http://www.marauder.org/marauder.htm>.htm <http://www.marauder.org/marauder.htm>>
