You are of course right on both accounts Dennis. However, the radio layout
still looks too good to me. Simple example is the nicely coiled speaker
wire. 73 - Mike

Cigarettes were included in the K Rations. Concerning the radios, in combat
soldiers use whatever they can get their hands on.

Yes, and where would they get cigarettes in the jungle. Supplying
cigarettes would not be a priority. Also, cigarette smoke could betray
their position.

What do I know? I am only 70 and certainly was not there. However, to my
eye, after I blew up the picture and saw some finer details, It just seems
like too much radio stuff, too well put together for a jungle lash-up. 73 &

Hue,
There was a long thread on this a couple of years ago. Better view showing
the RCA AVT-15 and AVR-20 attached below.
Probably salvaged (or liberated?) from one of the L-5 aircraft used during
the campaign to evacuate wounded. Don't see
any reason to question the authenticity , time or location of the picture.
For more recommend a visit to the Marauder's website.

Osprey Publishing has a book on Merrill's Marauders. One photo in it puzzled
me. It shows a team with an SCR-284 radio,
with a homemade loop antenna on top, and to the right of it, a barely
discernible small box which i was finally able to
identify as an RCA aircraft transmitter AVT-15.
If i've got this right, the photo is seeable in an ebook preview of this
title, page 26, at

on the Osprey Publishing website.
Another reason to have reservations is that the young guys in the photo look
remarkably fit, energetic, and relaxed. Clearly not from the
combat zone.
I'll comment to the publisher.
