A quick search for "cigarette" in that book turned up this on page 37..
"At each mealtime there would be active trading of K-ration components,
with cigarettes and sugar packets as key items of currency. The irregular
drops of C-rations and 10-in-1 meals, usually when the Marauders had a day
or two of rest, .."
