[Milsurplus] transportating radio gear

You really need a website/forum to make it work well. Then you can post
things ahead of time for folks to view vs. an email that gets lost in the
inbox mess. We've done this for years on AMfone.net and moved gear all over
the country. I've hauled stuff from NC to a Maine ham who met me at
NEAR-Fest in NH to pick it up. Many other items, too. I've received gear
from Ohio and points west the same way as well as FL to NC. We nicknamed it
the AM pony express.

Always works well if there's a decent sized hamfest involved, but it can
also work directly as Ron showed. Just takes a lot more organization. I
moved a load of gov't comms gear last year from New England to MD in the
biggest box truck Penske rents, because it had a lift gate. Wasn't much
else in the truck, unfortunately, and even if I'd had more time to
organize, it might not have been doable. But other times I've had trucks
available and not had any takers.

Another plus is being able to meet someone along a highway exit ramp if not
a rest area or truck stop. Problems arise when you're heading somewhere but
end up trying to find someone 25 miles off the interstate in an unfamiliar
area and get twisted around.

Be willing to cover gas, time, buy lunch etc. More often than not it isn't
required, but it's still a nice gesture. Don't assume that just because
someone is going that way it's not big deal.
