QST July 1945, "In The Services" section, p27 small photo low-res of GI
listening to his "canteen radio",
constructed by Pfc Robert Weinberg W2MCR, inside a "damaged water canteen
salvaged from a Lingayen
beach."

The radio uses a different construction from the 'prison camp canteen
radio'. The front panel faces the
user, looking into the opened canteen, which is opened by swing up the
hinged front section of the canteen.
The radio is cabled to a GI battery, which is a tall rectangular item maybe
8 inches tall ( ~2.5 cigarette packs ? )
or maybe 1.5 canteen height tall ( guessing from photo ) and maybe 4 inches
on a side. The battery has a plug
plugged in top; this runs a cable to the radio. Radio looks like it has 2
knobs. Caption says constructor geared
the tuning cap by mechanical parts from a clock and a typewriter.
What is that battery? looks too tall and narrow for BC-222. Mine detector
battery?
