Odd...I could swear that the photo at the above URL changed between the two times I looked at it. :-)
I don't know a source for such a plug.
With such attention to detail, I'm sure your friend is aware that the receiver is not a common BC-1206-C (S-C Model 524, 28 vdc), but rather the rarer R-76/ARR-13 (S-C Model 512, 14vdc, 250 vdc). The AN/ARR-13 was required on 14 vdc aircraft and got its HV from the AVA-126 power supply that the AVR-20-A1 HF receiver used. The AN/ARR-13 manual explicitly describes the modification of the AVA-126 for this. This receiver has only two conductors at its phone plug, so as you suggest the third lead into the phone connector must be strain relief.
The photo is interesting for showing the antenna switch between the two receivers.
