Mike may have slept in this morning.  Or maybe he got up early to go and 
grab some new treasure.  :-)  But, the answer to your question is Yes and No.  
He was referring to the standard Navy Type Number, which is five digits, 
and when shown on a nameplate is preceded by a 2 or 3 or 4 letter Navy 
Contractor Code of the form Cxxxx-.  Navy Contract Numbers of the 30's through 
about the mid 50's were of the form NXsr-nnnnn.  Where the "X" and the "sr" 
varied depending upon who issued the contract.  I don't recall how early the 
contract numbering system started.
