I'm certainly not against seeing the CL listings Dave and others have
posted. CL is a tool, a 21st century version of the Classifieds, Yellow
sheets, etc. I did find that particular ad....well...less than deserving of
all the publicity it was getting based on scant information and a threat.
Folks just need to be smart about dealing there, like any other sales
opportunity.
Then again, as someone pointed out, there are more than enough clues in
most ads as to whether or not you're dealing with someone who is truly
lacking knowledge or a side-show salesman. Along with distance, plenty of
other hints are available as filters.
Look at it this way - CL and other online venues provide access to and have
saved a lot of good stuff from hitting the landfill or scrapper. Equipment
still gets tossed daily, but now plenty gets saved when folks think there
might be a dollar in it. Craigslist makes that possibility easier for them.
